This month saw the inauguration of the biomass power plant built by one of Confluences’ clients BECIS - Berkeley Energy Commercial Industrial Solutions - in a joint-venture with Heineken, the leading Cambodian brewery. This project is Cambodia's largest biomass plant, adding more than 9 MW of installed capacity to the country's current electricity grid.
With the aim of producing 100% renewable thermal energy and achieving a 60% decrease in CO2 emissions, the plant will burn rice husks collected from the adjacent Prey Veng province, saving 17,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. In the context of a fast-developing country, this biomass power plant and BECIS’ expertise will contribute to building a greener nation for future generations in Cambodia.
The inauguration of this plant - the first BECIS project in the Kingdom - was presided by H.E. Say Samal, Cambodian Minister of Environment, but also the owners and CEO of both Heineken Cambodia and BECIS. Confluences was represented by its CEO, Soreasmey, and our Head of Operations, Helene - it was a great opportunity to reunite with the local BECIS team who moved out of our office after having stayed with us as a resident company for 12 months.
We have worked on this project from A to Z, helping recruit their first expatriates in Cambodia during the pandemic lockdown, as well as working on QIP Investment and construction licensing, office solutions, and full operational support. BECIS is now fully autonomous and we are very honoured to have been chosen by a SEA regional leader to support its development and operations in the Kingdom. We also believe that the implementation of more projects with BECIS will impact Cambodia extremely positively.
